Calling Inti-Illimani awesome would be an insult to the band- they're better than that. The only problem is that the scope of the mod isn't just South America anymore, and while nonetheless good, Inti-Illimani music gives a definite "South American" vibe.

I do like the idea of a Stephen Rippy-style soundtrack, just using a variety of instruments from multiple areas of the world to give a sort of cosmopolitan feel. Except that accursed Arabic horn-flute thing. That infernal instrument should be burned and then it's ashes purified by the tears of the Pope, the Dali Lama, and an influential Islamic cleric.

Has anyone figured out how to restore the original game soundtrack? I prefer the regular AOE3 music to the songs in the mod. Any way to get those back?

I'm not sure why you're treating it like some arcane knowledge lost to time, it's not particularly difficult.
You just need to restore the original playlist.xml

Thanks, that was very helpful.

For posterity, you can use AOE3Ed to open SoundXML.bar and eventually get the original playlist.xml.

Here's the original playlist.xml file in case anybody else wants to do this. You can overwrite (game directory)/bin/sound/playlist.xml with this:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

<playlists>
    <playlist name="Primary">
        <musicset name="Muptop">
            <file volume="1.0" mood="normal">Music\Standard\Muptop.mp3</file>
        </musicset>
        <musicset name="HappyToYou">
            <file volume="1.0" mood="normal">Music\Standard\HappyToYou.mp3</file>

guys, i love the new music, but i still like more the classic music. The problem is that i dont know anything about coding or modding, i barely know how to reduce population of units to 0 (at great cost).
 No one can post a dummie guide to how change music back to the original??? If so, will have my gratitude.

Did you see my post right above? Replace the file at the path I listed, copy/paste the attachment into it and save.

Hum, i try copy paste on the directory, but give me the same problem when i mess with the notepad lines. I was unable to play the game, it ask for the cd key, i put from the game i have on steam, but it dont accept.

Normaly i put the autopatcher to work, it restores everything, but i was unable to change the sound.

Dont use Editor to change AOE3 files !
Editor messes up the code, because it cant save .XML propperly.
Download Notepad++ and try again.
