African Culture Divided?

Fri May 04, 2018 11:30 pm

We know that although they share a very specific history, especially in the wol's time line, the African continent is very rich, coarse and extensive in terms of culture.

once they have added more african civilizations. have you thought about dividing the culture into 2?

the saharian and the sub saharian (?)
I am not saying to divide the culture into 2 different ones with different mechanics each one, i mean to give them a separate roost, buildingset, or even generic buildings.

similar to the case of Latin America, in which brazilians, paraguayans, argentines and haitians have a buildingset and share units such as the hussar, the dragoon or the pikeman. while mexicans, chileans, peruvians and colombians have other buildingset and share other units such as the lancer, the machete and the conscript.

in the first group would be the egyptians and the ethiopians and other like the sudaneses, argelians, moroccans, kanembu or somalians.
in the secont group would be the zulues, the malgaches, and in summary all the ecuatorial and austral people.

That does actually seem to make sense considering both the scale of the continent and how different cultures are from the North versus the South (Sub-saharan)

I like the idea of splitting the African roster, and it's something I'll look into more as we develop more African civs.

if you add more african civs that use library tech to perform age up, hmm, .. what effect can be used for each of library tech researched, for example
1: zulu
red tech -> send some impi
yellow tech -> send some youth, increase youth limit and increase infantry's speed
blue tech -> send some porters
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
as well as HC consulate relative (except spokeman), i will take zulu as example again
1: German Emmisary -> Each card gives you a free Umpakati per Age
2: Boer Commandant -> Cards arrive faster
3: Dutch Comissioner -> Each card gives you a crate of 100 Coin
4: British Governor -> each cards give your military units +1% attack and hitpoints

POR: Sem amor, o mundo afundará na guerra

I don't see a problem with library technologies, after all i don't think they should be "unique" but should serve a specific style of play.

about foreign representatives, I think that civilizations should be repeated, but as each one contributes something different.
for example, could a civ have the German emissary that enables czakpa and each shipment delivers free umpakati but other could have German Governor that enables the jaeger and shipments icrease the max hp of your units.

clearly should not abuse this and have >6 civs with a British ambassador, but I do believe that it could be used for other civs where it is necessary.

A big difference beetwen Saharaian and subsaharian civ is that saharian civs were influenciated by arabic and persian civilizations and Subsaharian weren't.

The zone of Mali and eastern african civs were a mix of both groups but overall are more similar to other subsaharian civs.

I think that Africa it's too big to try to describe it with only one culture.
