Ethopia strategy

Tue Mar 13, 2018 4:02 pm

Been playing Ethopia (mostly out of historical interest, I've been intrigued by the country's history ever since I read up on it from Civ 5) and I'm wondering: are there any more experienced Ethopian players who can help me figure out a good army composition?

I'm wondering if the Oromo Horseman / Tigray Lancers are worth using, since they're not affected by the military research, or are they better replaced by other gunpowder units mid-game? Or is it better to dedicate to a full turtle / Palace army with Sebastapols / Seftenya / Dimoftar?

I just joined the forum. Hi everyone.

From the little experience I have with Ethiopia, just massing Neftenyas and boosting their stats with cards and rushing infantry tech seems like an extremely powerful strategy.

Ethiopia is interesting, it seems to me like it's got potential to be massively overpowered compared to other civs, but it requires a ton of micromanagement of villagers, granaries and lots.

Just get that second TC and get free buildings forever.

I thnik in mid game you should focus on the inf, because the unit building time is so long, that you need to build at least 4 caserns to get your units on the field. So also of the lack of canons you can train your Camel riders to take down the atillery.
At the beginning i would go with Neftenya and also some Assegai.
After that i would go with Neftenya, Askari, Escorts and Sebastopool.

So to your question. I dont't think that Tiger Lancers are important so use, but the Horseman can be build to get skirmsher down. So there are important but i would not focus on them (could go on a rush with camel riders and transform them to horseman, but I did not try how thats working with the resouces and how quick you can do this).

And for me I didn't work with Seftenya / Dimoftar becuase the development and cost of the sebatopool are heavy and! necesarry for me. So till now I didn't use them. So I don't have any experience with them.
