The French is a European civilization, as we all know. But French is a European dish (More specifically French Fries) consisting of fried potatoes cut in the shape of sticks. Why was this name chosen?

Cause like potatoes, you can slice the French many ways.

Actually, when one cuts food into thin strips, it is called "Frenched" or "French". Chips are a Belgian invention. (I mean as in British chips, which Americans call fries, I believe)
