Dimoftar Picture

Mon Oct 02, 2017 6:40 am

Why is the dimoftar picture an Ottoman Bashi-Bazouk from a painting entitled "Black Bashi Bazouk" by Jean-Leon Gerome?

Also, where did the name come from in the first place? I can't find anything about it.

Well... we used the image because it showed a black guy with a gun, it was good and guessed nobody would care for the actual origin. It's not quite easy to find actual images of Ethiopian soldiers with guns.

The name of the Dimoftar comes from the gun it uses. The, uh, Dimoftar.

I know we can give him a more accurate and proper name, but I didn't know back then.

Also, he actually looks like the in game unit, something not all units can claim *stares at skirmisher*.

The painting is on the Bashi-Bazouk Wikipedia page.

The Portuguese explorer in the base game looked like the Explorer picture.

For anyone who wants a more accurate Ethipian Gun unit names, here's the alternatives:

Watadar or ChawaNeftenya, temenja yaji or snayder yaji.
