How to improve performance against AI?

Hey guys, I know that the AI in this mod can make thegame lag a lot mid/-late game. Any hints/tips that could help to improve the overall performance?
I usually play with 2 other friends against 3 expert AI's using LAN/Hamachii and the lag can become unbearable. Should I avoid certain maps/civs?

The Colombians have cow carriage siege units that are unable to be released from ships, even with plenty of room on shores.

Did you found a solution to this problem? A community member told me several months ago that AI naval strategy/combat doesn't really function. The Balkans AI are buggy in my games as well, not doing anything at all at times.

Serbian AI does not make enough military troops. They upgrade their tech and have enough villagers but they get steamrolled by other civs easily due to lack of military units.

Ship size downscaling

I really like the mod and despite improvements when it comes to naval combat, I still think there is one issue that would help: the unit size of ships are way too big!
Downscaling the size of these ships to 50% would make grand scale naval combat much more manageable and epic.
